What is Personality Disorder?
Personality disorders are a class of personality types and enduring behaviors associated with significant distress or disability, which appear to deviate from social expectations particularly in relating to others.
I am 35 year’s old and live in sunny Essex, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in 2009 and have had trouble’s throughout the years. I have travelled a lot and like going on holidays in the sun, mainly just to rest and do nothing. I have been fortunate enough to have a rather crazy life and have met many people along the way although these days I prefer the quiet life
I was lucky enough to get support from my mental health team and was treated by the amazing Impart team under NELFT.
I have suffered a lot of trauma which in turn has left me with this illness and the diagnosis of BPD. I have had some really hard times and life has been really scary and dangerous in the past. I am however in recovery at the moment and I am making so much progress in my daily life. I do a lot of voluntary work and have been helping other’s over the last couple of years which has also helped me very much.
I also suffer with depression and have done for most of my life so I have to find ways to cope and deal with the things that come along my way. The problem is there is not enough awareness about these illness’ and sometimes a bit too much stigma attached to it. I am doing the work I do to try to change these ideas and hopefully in time people’s opinion will also change.
Just over a year ago I also set up a fan page on Facebook helping others that suffer with mental health issues and Personality Disorder. A voluntary project by PDSN
